Trainers keep contact going
Upskill the candidate, get the candidate a job and help the candidate stay in that job.

John Slater, CEO of the Sarina Russo Group's new training arm, Sarina Russo Institute - Skills for Industry, said this was more than a mantra - it was how the program worked.

The idea is to match the needs of employers with relevant training courses.

Mr Slater said although there were more jobs on offer now, the competition for them was intense.

"Those who win the jobs are the ones with the up-to-date qualifications and relevant skills," he said.

"Work experience gives jobseekers an opportunity to impress a potential employer and appreciate the day-to-day reality of what is required to succeed," he said.

"Those taking the up-skilling courses include recent school leavers, redundant workers, mothers wanting to return to the workforce, mature aged workers and long-term unemployed," Mr Slater said.

On the other side of the coin, he said, the industries most in demand for entry level skills were hospitality, business administration, financial services and customer contact.
Sarina Russo Institute – Skills for Industry offices are located at MtGravatt and Stones Corner.

He said the offices had "expert employment consultants who utilise job-search techniques, employer marketing, mentoring and post-placement support".
