$1 million goal for local jobs
Achieving $1 million worth of jobs in the Westside News area in June is the aim of a new campaign launched by employment agency Sarina Russo Job Access.
Stuart Worthington, the Sarina Russo Job Access manager at Toowong, wants to place as many local jobseekers in local jobs as possible.
The campaign's aim is to engage the business community and encourage them to give a local person a local job.
"Skilled candidates seeking skilled jobs are the core of the local labour market," Mr Worthington said.
But on top of that there is an abundance of university students seeking part-time work," he said.
Office, retail and hospitality businesses were the main employers in the area, he said.
Mr Worthington has nothing but praise for local employers.
"Employers are pivotal to the success to our local community," he said.
"They inspire, educate and provide a better future. "They create financial independence, confidence, mateship, careers and so much more."
If you were an employer needing staff, or if you knew of an employer who needed staff, Sarina Russo Job Access had thousands of locals ready to work straight away, he said.
It plans to add the annual salaries of all successful candidates placed into work in June to calculate the success of the campaign.
The agency will keep the community informed of the progress of the jobs goal and the benefits for the local community.
