Jobs campaign right on the money – Lilydale Yarra Valley Leader

 

$1,001,120 worth of local jobs has been secured in the Lilydale area as a result of a community jobs campaign, says Robert Pears, manager of Sarina Russo Job Access Lilydale.

 

Mr Pears said the local jobs campaign was successful because it generated a lot of support from the business community.

 

"Sarina Russo Job Access put a lot of energy into marketing the skills of our jobseekers directly to local employers," he said.

 

"With the economy improving it is pleasing so many local employers participated in the jobs campaign and many more are considering taking on new staff in the future.

 

"The overriding message we received from employers is they are looking for staff with the right attitude to work.

 

"Skills and processes can be taught on-the-job, but the right attitude is a wonderful commodity for jobseekers to possess.

 

"In such a competitive jobs market it's vital for Sarina Russo Job Access to develop our jobseeker's soft skills, particularly interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team."

 

Other key job search strategies which helped many of our candidates get jobs include:

·   Setting specific, measurable and timely goals, 
    for example, phone three employers within 
    their industry of choice each day;

·   Research –what employers are looking for, and 
    the level of qualifications, experience, 
    attitudes, image, etc;

·   Developing a prospects list - company names, 
    titles, company background; and

·   Proactive - actively look for a job because 
    jobs don't look for you.

 

Mr Pears said the interview was a sales presentation, with the jobseeker as the product.
