Clive Gale has started work as a service technician with Move Yourself Trailer Hire as part of Sarina Russo Job Access’s $1 million worth of local jobs campaign.
As the northside service man for the operation, his job is to maintain the hire equipment in about 50 outlets as far afield as the Sunshine Coast.
‘‘I’ve been really lucky. I can’t speak highly enough of Sarina Russo,’’ said the 52-year-old, who landed the position just over a week ago.
Meaghan Theobald, of Sarina Russo Job Access, said the aim was to find $1 million worth of local jobs in the Pine Rivers Press area in June.
This is done by engaging the business community and encouraging employers to give a local person a local job.
The agency adds the annual salaries of all candidates placed into work in June to calculate the success of the project.
The figure this week has reached $828,000.
‘‘We have been going extremely well,’’ Ms Theobald said. ‘‘Right now we are focusing on work for people with factory, warehouse and forklift qualifications.’’
She said people who had just completed courses in business administration, retail and aged care at the Sarina Russo training facility in Caboolture were also looking for work.
‘‘Employers like local employees because they are reliable, don’t have to travel distances to get to work, and are able to engage with local customers.’’
Move Yourself Trailer Hire state manager Neville Standing said engaging Sarina Russo for staff recruitment took pressure off his role.
‘‘They find me decent staff. Instead of having to sift through 30 applicants myself, Sarina Russo sends me three and I am able to make a choice from there,’’ he said.
